Description

Description of heritage

  • Descriptif du centre d'interprétation
The illustrious Bellay family, related to the author, made its home at the Gizeux chateau in 1334 and developed this vast estate in Angevin Touraine for nearly 350 years. Furnished and inhabited, the castle is home to the largest collection of mural paintings in the region, in the Galerie François I (1585) and the Galerie des châteaux (1680). The paintings were remarkably protected by the villagers during the French revolution, with a thick layer of cob. They were later rediscovered. Family visit: All along the family guided tour, with the help of specially prepared leaflets and interactive signs for children, discover the different materials and crafts that are needed to build a castle and also the care taken to keep it looking really good.
