The Conservatory of ancient varieties in the Bourgueil region
Within the context of creating motorhomes areas, the town hall of Benais together with the winegrowers of Bourgueil, has initiated the planting of a conservatory orchard.
This idea was born in 2009 from a discussion over a glass of Bourgueil wine with Jacques Puisais who pointed out to the winemakers that nowadays in the Bourgueil area finding fruit that their ancestors had grown was becoming scarce
On the first hand the idea was to identify and list all these plants like the Bourgueil seed, the Planchoury cherry, the willow wicker, the licorice, the “bicane” (vine variety) etc…
One the other hand the objective was to develop them by means of a conservatory and for the winemakers to have an access to them.
